My current website mascotte, a game blood parasite!

Biography

I was born on a cold, snowy Monday, the third of March in 1986 in the town of Deinze, East Flanders, Belgium.

In primary and high school, I have been a fairly good student. That's why people expected me to become an engineer or scientist. So when I graduated from high school, I went to the university to study engineering. But it didn't feel right to me. I wanted to do something more creative. The mathematics which I loved before, now had become completely abstract equations without a single number in them !

The second semester, it was very clear to me I would not continue these studies. Together with my sister, I began searching for something I would like to do. We found out about the Bachelor of graphic and digital media, multimedia production at the University College Arteveldehogeschool in Ghent, East Flanders, Belgium.
A combination of graphics and a digital medium sounded very interesting to me. I went to study there and loved this type of work. Creating things other people are impressed with is very satisfactory.

Whilst being in my second year of multimedia production, the game beast inside me began to roar more furiously than before. I ignored wanting to become a production member of games for a long time. I thought it would not be a good idea to combine my hobby with my work.
But the calling became too strong. Multimedia production was a step in the right direction of game production. I couldn't ignore the call anymore. Hell, I even used a Tetris background for my first year portfolio …
I started to inform myself about game studies and discovered the Bachelor of Art and Technology: Game Design & Development at the Utrecht school of the Arts.
For my internship in my last year, I went to Transposia, a game and software publisher in Ghent.

So, after graduating from the University College Arteveldehogeschool in 2008, I went to study and live in Hilversum, North Holland, The Netherlands.
Because I know in the future I might go abroad to do my work, I wanted to go abroad for my internship at the HKU. So I have been able to do an internship at Complex Games Inc. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. While being in Canada, I also kept a blog about my experiences of being on another continent. The blog can be read here : jensinthepeg.wordpress.com

When I got back from Canada, I went straight to do my summer job at Gatcha! in Ghent as a game artist.

To this day, I love the experience of living abroad and am very passionate about creating games.
